Welcome to Sydney Inner West Speech Pathology, an independent service specialising in providing assessment and therapy to children and young adults with developmental delay, disability and stuttering.
Sydney Inner West Speech Pathology was founded by me – Naomi Halligan – on a commitment to make a positive difference to the lives of people with communication difficulties and their families.
I qualified as a Speech Pathologist in 2006 (BSc Hons, Clinical Language Sciences – Speech And Language Therapy), and have since worked for government health and non government disability services in the United Kingdom and Australia. I am a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and member of Speech Pathology Australia. I hold a current Working With Children Check clearance.
I am experienced in supporting clients with:
- Developmental delay.
- Mild, moderate and severe intellectual disability.
- Autism spectrum disorder (including autism, Asperger syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder – not otherwise specified).
- Cerebral palsy.
- Down’s syndrome and other syndromes.
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
- Dysfluency (also known as stammering or stuttering).
I am committed to delivering goal directed therapy. Whilst some families have specific communication goals in mind, others have a more general idea of what they want to achieve. Setting and achieving goals in such a way that progress can be tracked and measured is something we can discuss together.
I deliver effective and evidence based interventions, whilst ensuring therapy is enjoyable for my clients. Families often request particular interventions which I am experienced in and qualified to deliver, for example; the Lidcombe Programme for Early Childhood Stuttering, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), LEGO® – Based Therapy, Social Stories™, Intensive Interaction, Narrative Therapy, or support using a range of electronic communication devices and communication software.
I take a holistic interest in my clients. I understand how communication skills can impact all areas of life, and I am adept at working collaboratively with families, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, paediatricians and teachers to achieve joint goals.
